Do You Need to Book the Sagrada Família in Advance?

Yes, book in advance. The Sagrada Família says tickets can only be bought online, and each ticket is valid only for the time slot you choose. There are QR codes at the basilica for buying on the spot, but availability depends on how busy it is at that moment. Tickets go on sale roughly two months before the visit date.

Ticket types and prices

All individual tickets include the official audioguide app. Standard prices per person are:

  • Sagrada Família (basilica only): €26
  • With guided tour: €30
  • With towers: €36
  • With guided tour and towers: €40

Reduced prices apply to seniors (from €21), under-30s and holders of a student card (from €24). Entry is free for children under 11 and for people with disabilities, who pay only for any extras such as a tower or guide. Children under 3 do not need a ticket.

How the timed tickets work

  • Arrive on time. The basilica says late arrivals are refused entry, because tickets are only valid for the time chosen.
  • Bring photo ID. Tickets are nominative, personal and non-transferable. The name cannot be changed after purchase, and you must show official photo ID at the entrance, plus proof if you used a discount.
  • Refunds are limited. As a general rule there are no exchanges or returns. Requests must be made at least 48 hours before the visit; inside 48 hours you need official proof of the reason.
  • No queue to buy. With a ticket in hand, you go straight to entry at your slot.

Tower tickets

When you book, you choose a tower on either the Nativity façade, with views over eastern Barcelona, or the Passion façade, with views towards the city centre. Things to know:

  • Children under 6 cannot go up. Visitors under 16 must be with an adult.
  • You take a lift up and walk down by the stairs. The towers are not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
  • Bags and rucksacks are not allowed in the towers. Lockers are provided for them while you are up.
  • The basilica states there is no refund of the ticket price if the towers are closed.

Opening hours

  • November to February: Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 18:00, Sunday 10:30 to 18:00
  • March and October: Monday to Friday 9:00 to 19:00, Saturday 9:00 to 18:00, Sunday 10:30 to 19:00
  • April to September: Monday to Friday 9:00 to 20:00, Saturday 9:00 to 18:00, Sunday 10:30 to 20:00
  • 25 and 26 December, 1 and 6 January: 9:00 to 14:00

Hours can change for religious services and special events. The basilica can also close at short notice: in early October 2026 it closed for forecast bad weather, and official-channel tickets for the affected hours were refunded automatically. Check the website close to your visit.

What changed in 2026

Since 2 February 2026, 9:00 to 10:00 is a quiet hour. Visits run as normal, but you need earphones for the audioguide and should keep noise down. The basilica also set the blessing of the central Tower of Jesus Christ for 10 June 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death. The official pages do not list any change to standard tickets as a result.

Dress code

This is a working Catholic church, so dress modestly:

  • No see-through clothing, swimwear or bare feet
  • Trousers and skirts must reach at least mid-thigh
  • No bare shoulders in the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament
  • No hats in the nave or museum, except for religious, health or belief reasons

Bags are checked at the entrance, and there are no lockers for suitcases.

How long to allow

The official site gives about 1 hour 30 minutes for a visit. The audioguide runs about 45 minutes, or 25 minutes in its express version, and the guided tour lasts about 50 minutes. Add time if you are climbing a tower or want to see the museum.

Buying from the official site

The official website and the official app are the purchase channels the basilica lists. It says buying there means no commissions or processing fees. Because tickets carry the visitor's name and are checked against ID, make sure the name on any ticket matches the person using it.
